Marian M. McNallan

Marian M. McNallan, age 96, of rural Kellogg, died Saturday, December 18, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha. She was born at home on the Cook family farm in rural Plainview, the daughter of George and Mary (Ley) Cook. She married Coleman McNallan October 20, 1943 at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview. Together they farmed in Watopa Township of Wabasha County. Coleman died January 26, 1996. Marian lived on the farm for 61 years.


She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg and a member of its Council of Catholic Women. She loved her farm work and all aspects of it, from ordering the seed, fertilizer and fuel, to the planting, the cultivating and the harvesting. Her interests were feeding and watching the birds, especially her countless hummingbirds, quilting, photography and painting. She and Coleman were avid Minnesota Twins fans, catching all the games on television or radio.


Marian is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Jackie McNallan, Rochester, MN, Daniel and Sheila McNallan, Eyota, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and James Clawson, Rochester, MN; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and her 12 siblings.


A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 11:00am at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Reverend Glenn Frerichs officiating. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren: Mitch, Nick and Nate McNallan, Greg and Jeff Clawson, Matthew and Jennifer McNallan and Michelle Rahman. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Wednesday from 3-8pm and at the church on Thursday one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center.
