| Shared note | In May 1868, Peter immigrated with his family to Adams Township, MN. On March 6 1886, Peter nfiled to become a citizen of the US, spelling his name Peter Mellenbach. Peter then moved to SD where heworked in lumber yards and blacksmith shops in the towns of Eureka, Ipswich, and Aberdeen. Later, Peter filed claim on land three milesnorthwest of Hoven where he lived in a sod house.
After the wedding, Peter and Mary Ann purchased a farm eight miles southwest of Hven and lived there for then years. In 1905, the couple purchased Mary Ann's parents farm three miles north of Hoven, SD. In 1921, Peter and Mary Ann retired from farming and moved to Hoven. |
