| Note | Sarah E. Speltz, 18, of Altura died Wednesday (Feb. 24, 1993) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., from injuries received in an auto accident Wednesday near Elba, Minn.
She was born April 14, 1974, in Wabasha, Minn., to Leo and Mary (Haler) Speltz.
She graduated from Lewiston High School in May 1992. She was co-captain of the girls' basketball team, the team's most valuable player and an unanimous choice to the Three Rivers all-conference team. Sarah was a member of the National Honor Society, the high school band and the Mount Vernon Beavers 4H club.
For the last two years she had worked for the L.B. Express in Elba. She currently was a freshman in the nursing program at St. Scholastica College in Duluth, where she was involved in intramural basketball. Sarah enjoyed riding horses and downhill skiing. She loved life.
Survivors include her parents, Leo and Mary Speltz of Altura; her boyfriend, Toby Brummer of Plainview, Minn.; her maternal grandmother, Phylis Haler of Waukon, Iowa; a brother, Nathan, at home; and sisters Rebecca and Bridget, both at home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, Minn.; the Rev. Donald Loosbrock officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone from 4-9 p.m. Friday, and one hour before services. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday.
Pallbearers are Donny Thompson, Scott and Jim Ellinghuysen, Ross and Brent Greden, and Brent Matzle.
Hoff Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
