Note | Michael "Gus" Greden, 74, died June 23, 2016 at his home in Alameda, California.
Mike was born January 25, 1942 in Winona to Elmer and Mary Ellen (Sweeney) Greden. He filled his life with love and laughter, and led with his sense of humor. He graduated from Cotter High School and St. Mary's College in Winona, where his "fun and rewarding" love of composing music and playing jazz trombone during his years with St. Mary's Jazz Band, The Marinotes, flourished and grew. The friendships Gus made through music have been lifelong and enduring.
Mike and Judy Stevens were married in 1965, and with their three children moved from Minneapolis to California in 1972. Mike continued working in Technical Sales and found talented friends and colleagues in the College of Alameda Jazz Band where he enjoyed playing the trombone with the Band until 2013.
Family and Friends gave Mike much joy throughout his life; he was devoted to and proud of his creative children and grandchildren. He remained in contact with classmates from grade school, Cotter and St. Mary's, and engaged in friendships easily - he had a kind spirit and generous nature and a gift for listening to others - he enjoyed good jokes and the people who could tell them!
Gus is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judy; son Phil (and his wife Katherine); daughter Molly (and her husband Jim and children Corina and Mede); daughter Mary (and her daughter Indy). Also surviving is his sister, Kathy Greden Christenson, Winona (and her husband, Dave and children Mike, Tom and Charlie); cousins John and David Greden and Carol Ryan; Steve and Patrick Sweeney, Marcy Reed, nieces, nephews, and many treasured friends.
A memorial service will be held at the gravesite at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, on Monday, August 8th, at 11 am. If you are so inclined, please direct your donations to those that give you joy – in Mike’s name.
Services entrusted to Fawcett Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Winona, MN and Fountain City, WI. Words of sympathy and remembrance can be given at www.fawcett-junkerfuneralhome.com |
