After his honorable discharge he returned to Wabasha and eventually relocated to Minneapolis. He married Helen Stiever of Wabasha September 17, 1960 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha.
He was a long-time member of the Wabasha American Legion Post #50 and the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 of Wabasha. Bob enjoyed collecting antiques and coins, talking with family and friends, and watching his granddaughters compete in athletic competitions. Bob is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Annie Schones, and his two granddaughters, Brittany and Micaela Schones, all of Grantham, NH; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his parents, Henry and Emma Schones, his five brothers, Donald, Elmer, John, Ladd and Leo Schones and his sister, Dorothy Kirk.
A memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Donald J. Schmitz officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery.
