| Note | Geraldine E. McCloy passed away on August 14, 2008. She was 90 years young. Gerry was born on April 18, 1918 in Winona, Minnesota to Frank and Mary Anna Walch. She left the lakes of Minnesota eventually arriving to the beaches of Hawaii, where she met her husband Earl M. "Mac" McCloy. She and Mac were married in Honolulu, Hawaii on April 30, 1955. She and Mac raised seven children: Michael of Rockledge, Florida; Tom of Alexandria, Virginia; Dave of Colorado Springs; Mary Kliza of Colorado Springs; Pat of Colorado Springs; Tim of Colorado Springs and Rob of Colorado Springs. She was "Tutu" to 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grand-children. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Grace of Whittier, CA and her brother Dick of Kingman, AZ. Gerry and Mac left Hawaii and headed to Sandia Base, New Mexico in 1957. They were then reassigned to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1962, with a follow on assignment to Hanscom AFB in Boston, Massachusetts. Finally, Mac was assigned to Ent AFB and he, Gerry, and the kids arrived in Colorado Springs, Colorado in the summer of 1967. Gerry came from a family of seven, and raised seven children also. She was all about family. It meant everything to her. She was never happier then when she was celebrating a holiday or family gathering at her home cooking for everyone. If you wanted to see her, you had better do it in the kitchen because that is where she would be. She wrote her recipes down, but it was all the little extras that she added that made them her own. Later in her life, Sundays were very special to her. That was the day that her grandchildren would come to Tutu's house for dinner. They looked forward to it as much as she did. No matter how she felt, she always had a smile on her face for her grandchildren. Gerry was a woman of strong faith. She was a member of the Air Force Academy Community Center Chapel since 1967, receiving the first Life Time Volunteer Award ever given by the chapel. In fact, the award will be named after her in her honor. She was always involved in feeding her "preppies" on Monday nights at the chapel. Gerry was a very giving person. She was active with the local missions always giving food, clothes, or whatever she could to those less fortunate. In addition, she was a wonderful neighbor. Living in the same house for 41 years, she was active in the ladies birthday club and always bringing soup to the neighbors. She was a wonderful, faithful, energetic woman who lived life to the fullest. She was dearly loved and will be missed every day by those who love her. A visitation is scheduled from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., with a Rosary from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Swan Law Funeral Director's, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO. A Mass is planned for 9:30 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2008 at United States Air Force Academy Community Center Chapel, USAFA, CO. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in her name to the Mesa House, 420 Mesa Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80905. |
