Minneiska, Minn.

Joseph J. Speltz, 52, rural Minneiska, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Wabasha, where he'd been a patient four days. He'd been ill several years.

Mr. Speltz was born April 3, 1910, in Mount Vernon Township and was a lifelong resident of this area. He married Dorothy Walch May 22, 1935, at Immaculate Conception Church, Oak Ridge.

He was a member of the Winona Knights of Columbus, St. Nicholas Society at Rollingstone, and Holy Name Society of Immaculate Conception Church. He served as supervisor of Whitewater Township from 1948 to 1962.

At the time of his death he was chairman of School District 114. He was a farmer.

Mr. Speltz is survived by his wife; three sons, Josoph Jr., Leo and Philip, all at home; two daughters, Mrs. LaVaine (Marguerite) Uthke, Eyota, Minn., and Mrs. Dale (Monica) Thompson, Dover; three brothers, Vincent and Norbert, Minneiska, and Dr. Merritt Speltz, Bement, Ill and four grandchildren. A daughter died in infancy.

Funeral services will be at Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. S. N. Majerus, Rollingstone, will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at Rollingstone Funeral Home Tuesday after 7 p.m. and after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Tuesday by the St. Nicholas Society and at 9 p.m. by Winona Knights of Columbus and Wednesday at 8 p.m.
