Shannon Marie Stenzel, age 48 of Hastings, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday,
June 13, 2024, at United Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. In 2021, Shannon
was diagnosed with EGFR lung cancer, a gene mutation that she bravely fought for over three
years. Shannon was the light of many lives that she touched in her time on Earth.
Shannon was born on May 18, 1976, the middle of three daughters to Judy and John Becker.
Shannon grew up in Hastings and decided to raise her family in Hastings. Shannon attended
Winona State University to major in special education. She met the love of her life while attending
Winona State University and was married to Chris Stenzel in July of 2001. Together they had
one son, Connor. Shannon had a passion for teaching special education and worked at Hastings
Middle School for the last 18 years.
Shannon enjoyed chai lattes, game shows, her friends and family, and most of all candy. She was
well known for her sweet tooth. She lived life to the fullest each day, always full of joy, love, and
faith. Shannon made a point to get to know everyone on a personal level. She enjoyed gift giving
and knew how to make the most amazing gift basket. Shannon often joked that gift giving was her
greatest joy in life. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister, daughter, auntie, teacher, and friend.
Shannon is survived by her husband of 22 years, Chris; son, Connor; mother, Judy; sisters, Sonia
(Jon) Christian and Shelly (Rion) Latimore; mother-in-laws, Peggie (Rick) Klink, and Virginia (Jim)
