James Robert Lorenz, age 92, of Wells, MN, died Monday, February 10, 2014 at Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, MN. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, MN. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN, with a Prayer Service at 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Father Eugene Stenzel will officiate and interment will be in St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Wells, MN. Military Honors accorded by Wells Color Guard.
James Robert Lorenz was born March 7, 1921 to Ernest Eugene and Ida (Curtice) Lorenz in Garden City, SD. He worked as a blacksmith until entering the U.S. Army. James served during World War II in the 2nd Battalion-145th Infantry. He received the Purple Heart, American Theater Service Medal, Pacific Theater Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. Due to the tornado in Wells that destroyed St. Casimir Catholic Church, James married Adeline A. Stenzel in Minnesota Lake, MN on August 27, 1946. James farmed for many years, and obtained his boiler's license and worked at Del Monte in Wells until his retirement. He loved to play cards and dance—he often said he'd rather dance than eat. James loved and enjoyed his family. He was a member of Wells VFW, DAV, and St. Casimir Catholic Church.
James is survived by his wife Adeline of 67 years of Wells; 2 daughters: Judy (Don) Johnson of Wells, Carol (Steve) Russell of Waseca; 3 grandchildren: Mitch (Margaret) Johnson of Wells, Nancy Ceccoli of Shakopee, Parker Russell of Waseca; 6 great-grandchildren: Emma and Levi Johnson, Danny and Aiden Ceccoli, Deanna Holly, Christopher Ceccoli; a brother: Ted (Shirley) Lorenz of Sioux Falls, SD; 2 sisters: Frances Riter of Rapid City, SD, Wilma Bull of Watertown, SD; 2 sisters-in-law: Jeanette Lorenz of Alden, Angie Lorenz of Aberdeen, SD; brother-in-law: Larry (Mary) Stenzel of Decatur, TX, along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Phil and Don; 2 sisters: Margaret and Evelyn; grandson Dominic Ceccoli.
