SOURCES: Feb 2001. :Using a tip from Kathy Repp, I am in possession of a Matthew Stanley Family Tree at www.usinternet.com/users/stanlord/matthew.htm. There are some difference from what we have, and some additions. Dates or other conflicting data are enclosed in (_), as is additional information Source of the information for the Family Tree published in the book "The Cross Clan and the Stanleys" was furnished by Cheryl Stanley. Barb Unger wrotw "information about the Stanley family came from submitted notes to the Fillmore City Historical society. The information was corrected slightly in 2000 from the LDS records." Other Sources contained in this record are varied and many. LDS (Chuch of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints)is a source, for some, and those can be identified when the Notes section has a symbol such as (AFN:RDPC-CJ). BIRTH DATE; I did find a record showing his birth date as 1640, however most indications are that 1629-30 is more accurate. A FATHER FOR MATTHEW? The LDS records has Matthew Stanley (AFN:RKPC-CJ), born 1640 at Topsfield, MA, as the son of John Stanley and Sarah Scott. This information was submitted by Glenda Lloyd, 6233N Elm, Mesa, AZ, 85201, submission AF92-100094, and Nancy Ruth Waldo Clement, 9 Collier Street, St Catherines,ONT, Canada L2P2R9,submission: AF96-113866. I accepted this information, and then was challenged by Roy M Stanley,122 West River Bend Road, Fredericksburg, VA, 22407, phone 540-786-5038. I wrote to the two submitters and asked them for their source on the John - Matthew. Glenda Lloyd (glendaven@juno.com) replied and she stated that she "did not have any parents for Matthew b 1630."She further stated "I submitted his name to the LDS Ancestor File as part of genealogical research done by my mother, now deceased. I did not research the records. She gives her refeence for the data: Genealogy of New England, by Cutter, Vol 2-3 series." Roy M Stanley (not to the best of my knowledge a relative of ours, I believe he is a descendant John). Unless evidence surfaces that disputes Roy M, I have deleted John from my records, and any reference that you may find to him there in, you should investigate very carefully before including him in your ancestors. If you do find such evidence please let me know. Earl Cross, 3440 SW 106 Ave, Beaverton, OR, 97005-1931, escr1@yahoo.com, or EarlCross60@myfamily.com PLEASE, if you do find a father for Matthew, let me know!!! As things stand now, there is no reliable record of a father for Matthew, born 1629-30 / 1640. Samuel & Joanna had 7 children: Matthew 1690-1714;; Jacob 1684-5, Nathaniel, 1697, John 1703, Joseph, 1692, Thomas, 1688, Samuel, 1678. As you trace your ancestry from Matthew to the present generation, please be award that I have placed our families ancestor at the head of the list of children, without regard to order of birth. Copied from http://www.usinternet.com/users/stanlord/matthew.htm: Regaarding the origins of Matthew, there are several ideas that Matthew is related to the Hartford Stanleys (which seems unlikely). Possibly he was indentured (hired out) at about 16 which was fitting for the times that Matthew of Topsfield & George of Beverly are related to Christopher of Boston who d. in 1646. In Daggett's account of Attleaboro, MA, a Matthew Stanley of Martha's Vineyard who later settled at Topsfield is mentioned. The Saugus iron Works was staffed by persons from Middlesex. An Edmund Chapman settled at Marblehead, MA in the 1640's. An Edmund Chapman and his servant Matthew stanley of Middlesex, England were pardoned by Charles I in 1640. Perhaps they immigrated 1646, he was at Lynn, MS - 5 June 1647, he sued Walter Knight for defamation - 9 Sep 1649 he was in court re: John Taraox's step daughter. His will dated 24 Feb 1668, signed with an X, witnessed by Captain Goule, proved 16 Ocxt 1686 is at Suffolk County Courthouse, Boston, MA> Descendants of Matthew
