In 1761 he was one of the earliest settlers of Mt. Ephrain(now Richmond)Mass(See Badrber's Mass. Hist Coll.) He settled in the south west part of town near the State Line.*
* on the 25 May, 1764 at a town meeting (of Yakum town and Mt. Ephriam) a Committee was appointed to bulid a meeting house in Yakum Town(Richmond). (Yakum town was Lenox but that house might have been built in ARichmond). and on the 9th 0f Oct 1764 a committee(Samuel Brown Jr. Joseph Patterson and John Benton} was appointed to allott the pews ground in the meeting house to those propritors that they they think in justice out to have it"- 26 pews and the rest of the space to be laid out in long seats. The first pers assigned to Bendict Dewey and Joseph Patterson. At the same time a seat was assigned to William Saltmarsh and His wife.(Manuscript letter of Dr Bond) |
