James M. Ritter James M. Ritter, 70, of Owatonna died Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Cedarview Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial is set for Sunday September 13, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. Interment to follow at Owatonna Memorial Gardens. Friends may greet the family on Saturday, September 12, 2009, from 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Church (512 South Elm St. Owatonna). A wake service will be held at 8:00 p.m. at the church on Saturday night. The visitation will continue one hour before the time of the funeral liturgy at the church on Sunday. James was the son of Paul and Margaret (Hall) Ritter on September 22, 1938, in Winnebago, MN. Jim attended Winnebago High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1956. Jim attended Mankato State University for three years. Jim was drafted into the Army serving stateside during the Korean War, from 1957–1962. Jim was united in marriage to Jane F. Nowak August 6, 1960, in Wells, MN. The couple made their home in Mankato. Jim went to work for Allstate Insurance Company and later relocated to Owatonna to continue his work in the insurance business. Jim started his own agency in Medford in 1974 and relocated the business to Owatonna. Jim and wife Jane opened J &J; Soft Serve in the summer of 2002. Jim was a member of the Owatonna Eagles and Elks and was very involved in coaching and sponsoring youth and adult activities throughout his life. Jim’s interests include fishing, hunting, playing cards, crossword puzzles and spending time with his grandkids. Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years Jane; his four sons, Brad ( Allison) Ritter , Mike (Dawn) Ritter, Tim (Stephanie) Ritter all of Owatonna and Steve (Diane) Ritter of Lindstrom, MN; 10 grandchildren; brother Doug (Julie) Ritter of Ohio; his father Paul (Ginny) Ritter of Lake Crystal, MN.
