Evelyn Ruth Hamann was born on March 27, 1919 in West Clayton Township, WI to Herman and Emma (Wetzel) Elmer. She grew up in West Clayton and attended Amery Public School. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Evelyn graduated from Amery High School and then worked in the Twin Cities as a nanny. Evelyn married Arthur E. Hamann on February 18, 1939, initially making their home in Joel, WI. Eventually the couple made their home in Amery. Born to this union were seven children. In addition to her tasks as wife and mother, Evelyn worked several summers at the canning factory, babysitting and later at the Apple River Valley Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department. Following her retirement, she served as a volunteer at Golden Age Manor. Evelyn moved from her house to Waters Edge Apartments and resided there for many years. In 2009 she moved to Golden Age Manor until God called her home on July 4, 2013. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur and son, LeRoy (Linda); sisters, Berniece, Ardis and Irene (Stanley) Simonson and brother, Ralph (Arlene). Surviving family members include Erma Hamann, Patricia (Dean) Johnson, Harold (Linda) Hamann, Arlyce (Douglas) Anderson, Sandra Hamann and Paul (Judy) Hamann and daughter-in-law, Linda (LeRoy) Hamann; sister, Viola (Perley) Haugerud and brother, Herman (Marion) Elmer; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, WI. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery, as well as the hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Amery Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, WI or to the MS Society. |
