Gene William Barnick, age 81, of Wells, MN, passed away at Parkview Care Center in Wells, MN, on Thursday, December 17, 2009. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells, MN. Visitation will be Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 2-5PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. Pastor Meg Sander will officiate and burial will take place in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells, Minnesota. Military Honors will be accorded by the Wells Color Guard. Gene William Barnick was born December 11, 1928 in Wells, the son of Ed and Rose (Salzmann) Barnick. On November 6, 1952 he married Arlean Niebuhr in Wells, MN. Gene was a farmer and he worked at the Wells Farmer's Elevator for 30 years and retired in 1991. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He was in the Army from Jaunuary 1951 to October 1952, serving in Korea. Gene is survived by his loving wife Arlean; 2 sons: Bryan (dear friend Pam) Barnick, Scott (wife Marilyn) Barnick, all of Wells; 3 grandchildren: Chad (dear friend Stacy) Barnick, Ronald (wife Sarah) Barnick, Breann Barnick; 1 great-grandson: Jayden Barnick; Sisters Donna Stienhauer of Wells, Mary (Les) Coy of Elmore, MN, brother Harold (and wife Dorthy) Barnick of Lake Crystal, MN; sisters-in-law Bessy Barnick of Wells, and Katherine Barnick of Albert Lea; sister-in-law Helen Grunzke and Ardean Schultz of Wells; Alice Niebuhr of Waseca, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Janice Schieck, Lois Thisius, Richard, Robert and Henry; brothers-in-law Harvey (and wife Helga) Niebuhr, Ed and wife Janice Schieck, Donald Grunzke, Leo Schultz, and Melvin Niebuhr.
