Clifford A. “Skip†Whetstone, age 69, of Winona, MN, died on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona.
He was born on February 11, 1940, in Winona, MN, to Donald and Lorraine (Knoll) Whetstone.
Skip honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a brick layer and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, AmVets, Elks, Eagles, Redmens and the Brick Layer’s Association.
Skip loved gardening, fishing in his earlier days, playing cards, especially cribbage, and gambling. Most of all he enjoyed socializing with his friends and family.
He is survived by his children, Mike Whetstone, Winona, MN, Linda (David) Doetsch, Springfield, IL, and Kim Anderson, daughter at heart, Winona, MN; grandchildren, Christopher, Mindy, Justin and Denton; siblings, Audrey Smith, Winona, MN, Jerry (Judy) Whetstone, Winona, MN, Wesley (Brenda) Whetstone, Winona, MN, Judy Barth, Winona, MN; sister-in-law, Chris Whetstone, Winona, MN; 16 nieces and nephews; as well as great nieces and nephews.
Skip was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; parents; sister, Marlene; brother, Lyle; and niece, Brenda.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM, on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 will provide full military honors following the service.
Reverend Kathleen Zielinski will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Saturday, December 12, 2009, from 1 PM until the time of the service.
Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN, at a later date.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to Winona Area Volunteer Services.
Our heartfelt thank you to each of the loving staff at St. Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona Health, and especially his friend and doctor, Dr. Wayne Kelly. To all who took time to visit and think of Skip during the past year.
