Death of J.H. Ley

J.H. Ley, proprietor of the Western house, died at his home on Tuesday morning after a very brief illness of pneumonia.
The funeral was held this morning at St. Joseph's church under the auspices of the Catholic Order of Foresters of which the deceased was a prominent member. Mr. Ley came to LeMars from Remsen about a year and a half ago and during that time has built up an extensive hotel business and made a number of friends.
Mr. Ley was a member of the Carroll Court of Foresters and carried insurance to the amount of $3000 in the order.
A large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral.
Deceased was born at Aurora, Ill., about forty-eight years ago and after spending his earlier life in Illinois went to Minnesota where he was united in marriage with Miss Theresia Greden at Wabasha, Minn., in St. Felix church, June 1877. Eleven children were born to them, nine of whom survives him. The children are Lena, Katie, Anna, Maggie, Lizzie, Edith, Angie, John and George. The two who have passed away are Andrew and Josephine. After marriage the family lived in Minnesota about five years and then went to South Dakota where they lived for sixteen years. They lived at Carroll three years and at Remsen and then here."
